Young Mom Fighting Cancer

For the past two months, I've been dealing with a cold and possible pneumonia, and it's left me feeling exhausted.  I haven't had a lot of energy to deal with my Etsy and Ebay stores, and I guess I felt a bit sorry for myself.  Until I read about a young mother of three young boys who is battling breast cancer, and had a second surgery today.  I have three grown sons, and looking at her photos took me back in time to when mine were the same age as hers.

By way of explaining the background to her story ... I belong to a Facebook group where the members help each other with listing products and shipping questions.  If you want to check it out, it's called The Thrifting Board, and the head administrator is Jason from Thrift Hunters which ran for two seasons on Spike TV.

Today, the group's administrator decided to raise money to help with the mounting bills that her family is facing.  I am going to post the link to the story, and hope that some of you may feel led to help her and her family.  Certainly she needs your prayers and good wishes, but if anyone can contribute even a small amount to the fundraising, that would be so very much appreciated.  God bless you all!

I have always loved to sew.  When I was quite little, my mother taught me how to thread a needle and knot the thread so I could stitch patterns on tea towels.  She gave me fabric scraps to create clothing for my dolls.  I had a lovely sewing basket that carried my stash of sewing supplies that I proudly carried with me for overnights at my Grandmother's house. Eventually Mom taught me how to use our sewing machine, which was my Grandmother's old treadle machine.  I think it was given to Mom in exchange for her agreeing to do all the mending for her mother-in-law.  My initial projects were little more than stitching lines on towels or perhaps attaching ties to an apron ... nothing very difficult.  The biggest bit of information passed on to me in those early days was to make sure I didn't stitch through my fingers. Simplify Christmas Preparations: Enjoy the Moments

UPDATE 2017:  This year, I really needed to read my own post from 2014.  With grandkids and flus & colds before Christmas, I feel like I'll never get everything ready by the time company arrives for dinner on December 25.    And from 2015: I'm so glad I don't over-do the Christmas season... Don't get me wrong.  I love the entire Christmas season.  I love the church services, especially late at night on Christmas Eve with a soft snowfall as I leave.  I love the carols, the decorations, the baking, turkey dinner on the 25th, seeing family and friends, Christmas cards ... all of that.  I even love shopping. I don't care about the crowds or complain if the stores are playing the same carols over and over.  I love it all. Blog link party Here's to all of us, wishing us all happiness, health, and all good things in this new year. We celebrated the end of 2018 and the beginning of 2019 much like we do every new year with family.  Supper at my grandchildren's home, then back to our house where we watched the new year ushered in around the continent, until finally it arrived in our city.  January 1st was spent, as is our longstanding tradition, gathering with many relatives for dinner and an evening of visiting and games.  Impossible to start a diet on January 1 in our family, as it is the first feast of the year. I did not make resolutions, unless you count the "I should's" dancing in my head.  If I wrote them all down, it would be overwhelming.
